Vernacular Design

Vernacular design takes inspiration from the natural world - it interacts with elements, movements, landscapes, materials. It also holds the community at the heart of all creation - every aspect of the design process pays tribute to the community it is made for, and evolves along with its people, meeting their needs in a highly customized, customizable manner. Vernacular design focuses on the indigenous, the individual.

At Studio Sitara, we are guided by the principles of vernacular design:

  1. Efficiency: All of our designs are built in order to be cost-effective, useful, and adaptable to context.

  2. Safety: We ensure that the physical health of our communities is supported through our designs. Our materials are environmentally friendly, our designs are ergonomic, and our passion is endless!

  3. Aesthetics: Inspired by nature, we hope that our designs reflect the beauty of symmetry, form, and patterns found in the local environment. We hope to create products that are not only beneficial to the community but also beautiful to look at and experience.
